Ghana Announces Presidential Election Results On Facebook

Ghana's Electoral Commission through its Facebook page has declared incumbent President John Dramani Mahama as winner of the 2012 presidential election held on December 7.

The Commission announced the results on Sunday after its official website went down due to technical challenges. Mr. Mahama was elected to a new term with 50.7 percent of votes compared to his top rival Nana Akufo-Addo who took 47.4 percent of the vote, according to the Electoral Commission’s Facebook page

Mahama became president in July 2012 after the death of former President, John Atta Mills. He served as the Vice President of Ghana from 2009 to 2012.
