Using Mobile Devices to Solve the Global Problems

The first time I ever realize the advantage of a mobile was 2006 when a building collapsed around Ajegunle Lagos. Fortunately a man survived but still under the building ..No way out!

So he survived that day with a mobile phone when those outside with aid are communicating with him.. The advantages of a mobile phone or device are even more than that, because we all have an account on Twitter or Facebook, so we all knew it.. But the fact is; It’s not about being connected, but to solve the world’s most pressing problems.

Larry Irving, co-founder of the Mobile Alliance for Global Good, at the 2012 Social Good Summit on Sunday has said:
“The solutions are hard,”
“It’s very hard to make mobile technology work well in a non-profit [mode]. You’re not just talking about a technological solution. You’re talking about changing business models. You’re talking about changing cultures. You’re talking about changing operational models. And we have to sit down together and figure out how this is going to work.”

He stressed the importance of people with different experiences and expertise coming together and discussing global issues in order to find solutions.

“This is the most important device ever for changing the world, but we have to work together to make it work the way we want it to work,” Irving said.

But for we to optimize these mobile solutions, Irving said we need to:

      1. Make hackathons more about pressing social needs and the process of meeting them, and less about a technology event.
      2. Bring impact investors together with social entrepreneurs
      3. Create the MAGGIES, awards to celebrate individuals and groups who use mobile solutions for social good.

“We need to be focused on outcomes. That’s the most important thing we can do,” Irving said.
Hey folks, how do you think we can change the world with a mobile device?

A mobile device (also known as a handheld device or handheld computer) is a small, hand-held computing device, typically having a display screen with touch input and/or a miniature keyboard and weighing less than 2 pounds (0.91 kg). The like of Apple, HTC, Samsung, Nokia, Ericsson, LG, and Motorola are just a few examples of the many manufacturers that produce these types of devices.
